Statement in Support of Safe Storage Practices

The Licensed Gun Owners Welfare Association of Bangladesh today reaffirms its support for safe storage practices as a cornerstone of responsible firearm ownership. As gun owners, we believe that how a firearm is stored is as important as how it is handled. Unsecured firearms are a leading factor in accidental shootings involving children, in thefts that supply the illegal market, and in impulsive acts of self-harm.

Consistent with that belief, LGOWAB supports the following measures:

  1. Storing firearms unloaded and locked — in a safe, lockbox, or with a locking device — whenever they are not under the owner’s direct control, with ammunition stored separately.
  2. Making secure storage devices affordable and widely available, including free gun lock distribution programs in every community.
  3. Public education for parents and gun owners on reducing children’s unsupervised access to firearms in the home and in vehicles.
  4. Prompt reporting of lost or stolen firearms to law enforcement, so stolen guns can be traced and kept out of the wrong hands.

These are practical, common-sense steps that protect families without burdening lawful owners. Most gun owners already follow them; our goal is to make them universal.
