Firearms & Suicide

Putting time and distance between a crisis and a firearm saves lives.

Suicidal crises are often brief, but a firearm leaves little room for second chances. Temporarily moving guns out of reach during a difficult period — whether through voluntary storage with a trusted person or licensed dealer, or through a court-ordered temporary transfer where the law provides for one — is one of the most effective steps a family can take. This approach is often called means safety, and it works because it buys time.

The Licensed Gun Owners Welfare Association of Bangladesh believes that looking out for one another is part of responsible ownership. If someone in your household is going through a crisis, storing firearms elsewhere for a while is not a judgment on anyone’s rights — it is an act of care, and the guns come home when the danger has passed.
