Working with physicians & public-health professionals
Firearm injuries claim tens of thousands of lives in the United States every year, and the majority of those deaths are preventable. LGOWAB works alongside physicians, nurses, and public-health professionals who see the consequences of unsafe storage and untreated crisis firsthand. Together we develop plain-spoken guidance that gun owners can trust, because it comes from people who respect both the medical evidence and the responsibilities of ownership.
Our members have joined public conversations on injury prevention and suicide awareness, bringing the perspective of responsible gun owners to discussions that too often leave us out. A recent broadcast segment featuring one of our founding members is embedded below.
Partnering with universities to support firearm-injury research
Good policy starts with good data. LGOWAB supports university researchers studying the causes and prevention of firearm injury, and members of our board serve in advisory roles with academic research programs focused on keeping children and teens safe. We believe gun owners should be at the table when this research is designed, so that the questions asked reflect how firearms are actually owned, stored, and used.

Free gun locks for families, in partnership with local schools
A locked firearm cannot be picked up by a curious child or reached in a moment of crisis. Working with school districts and a local community foundation, LGOWAB distributes free gun locks and safe-storage materials to families — hundreds of locks and safety brochures have gone home with parents since the program began.
The need is real. Hundreds of children die by firearm suicide each year, most attempts happen within a short window of decision, and well over a million children live in homes where firearms are not securely stored. A simple lock, offered without judgment, interrupts that chain. If your school or community group would like to host a gun-lock giveaway, we want to hear from you.
